The International Cricket Council (ICC) always talks about sporting pitches, but except for two matches, the biggest tournament of the T-20 format being held under its supervision has not seen good pitches so far, especially since the drop-in pitch of New York is not world-class. Whenever matches are held in India, a lot of questions are raised on the pitch there. However, the ICC is silent on the questions being raised on the New York pitch.
According to sources, it takes about six to nine months to set up a drop-in pitch, but it was set in just three months in the temporary stadium built in Eisenhower Park in Nassau County, New York. Usually, the slope of the pitch starts from one side and the pitch is slightly higher in the middle and the slope ends on the other side, but this pitch is becoming slightly lower in the middle.
Cracks are seen on the pitch
Not only this, there are light patches in the pitch in between which the ball remains low when it falls, and when the ball bounces on the edge of these patches, it gives a tennis bounce. Not only this, but the outfield here is also very slow. This was also clearly visible in the league match between India and Ireland.
The Irish team could not even handle the Indian fast bowlers, while a ball with uneven bounce hit the arm of Indian captain Rohit Sharma, due to which he had to retire hurt. Not only this, the Indian spectators who had come here to watch a good match had to leave after watching a short match. Former England captain Michael Vaughan even called the pitch between India and Ireland a shocking pitch.
'Not safe for players'
Meanwhile, commentator and former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has also criticized the pitch. Irfan Pathan said, 'We want to promote cricket in America, but this pitch is not safe for the players. If we had such a pitch in India, no match would have been played there for a very long time.'
In America, apart from New York, matches are being held in Dallas and Florida. After the match, Indian coach Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathore went to see the pitch. They also saw the pitch on which India has to play against Pakistan. India still has to play two more matches on this ground. ICC's General Manager (Marketing and Communication) Claire Furlong said, 'The pitch is being examined. The match officials will rate it.'
