The Rs 358 crore sponsorship deal between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and fantasy sports company Dream11 has ended prematurely. The deal was for a period of three years in 2023, under which the Dream11 logo was visible on Team India's jersey, but due to the recently passed 'Online Gaming Bill 2025', Dream11 decided to exit the contract.
BCCI confirmed
Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has also confirmed the separation of BCCI and Dream11. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said, "After the passage of the 'Online Gaming Promotion and Regulation Bill, 2025', BCCI and Dream11 are ending their relationship. BCCI will ensure that it does not have any relationship with any such organization in the future."
Dream11 representatives reached the BCCI office
There has been a big turn in the relationship between BCCI and Dream11. According to media reports, recently representatives of Dream-11 reached the office of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and formally informed CEO Hemang Amin that the company will no longer be able to continue as the lead sponsor on Team India's jersey. The direct effect of this will be that in the upcoming Asia Cup, the Indian team will take the field without the Dream-11 logo. BCCI may soon issue a tender for a new sponsor.
Dream-11 replaced Byju's
Dream-11 acquired the right to become the lead sponsor of BCCI in 2023 when it replaced Byju's. The price of this sponsorship deal was fixed at around Rs 358 crore, but under the latest circumstances, the company has had to withdraw from the agreement. This decision will not only affect the Board of Control for Cricket in India, but its effect will be seen in many parts of the sports world. Dream-11 has been sponsoring cricket and other sports globally for a long time.
The company's brand ambassadors are also strong
From several IPL franchises to different cricketers, Dream-11 has had a very deep penetration in the sports business. The company's list of brand ambassadors is equally strong, which includes big names like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah. Not only this, in 2020, when Vivo left the IPL title sponsorship due to India-China tension, Dream11-11 took the responsibility of becoming the title sponsor for some time. Overall, the sudden exit of Dream-11 is a challenge for Indian cricket to find a new sponsor, while its impact can also be heard on many leagues and players globally.
What impact on whom?
The BCCI will now suddenly have to look for a new sponsor, while the Asia Cup is very close.
There will be no prominent logo on the players' jerseys for now, which will affect both brand value and revenue.
This also happened in 2020 when Dream-11 took over the title sponsorship of IPL after Vivo withdrew, now the same Dream-11 is leaving the board in trouble.
Dream-11's presence was not limited to Indian cricket only. This company has been the sponsor of many IPL franchises and many star players.
Dream is the official fantasy partner in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), while it is also the title sponsor of New Zealand's domestic league, Super Smash.
These smaller tournaments do not get strong financial support like IPL, so the withdrawal of Dream11-11 can create a financial crisis for them as well.
