This win leveled the three-match series at 1-1. This victory was significant for New Zealand in several ways. It was their first ODI win against India since 2023, ending a run of eight consecutive defeats. It was also their first ODI win against India in India since 2017, when they had suffered eight consecutive losses.
New Zealand's most successful run chase in ODIs
New Zealand lost two early wickets while chasing the target, but Daryl Mitchell and Will Young forged a crucial 162-run partnership for the third wicket, turning the tide of the match. Young narrowly missed a century, getting out after scoring 87 runs off 98 balls with seven fours. Mitchell then took charge, along with Glenn Phillips, and guided the team to victory. Phillips remained unbeaten on 32 off 25 balls, hitting two fours and a six. For India, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.
In terms of records, this is New Zealand's highest successful run chase in ODI cricket in India. Their previous best successful chase was 281 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2017. Overall, this is New Zealand's fifth-highest successful run chase against India in ODIs, with the record being 348 runs in Hamilton in 2020. This was also the first time in five matches in Rajkot that the team chasing the target emerged victorious.

KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 112 runs off 92 balls with the help of 11 fours and one six, enabling India to post 284 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs. Besides Rahul, Shubman Gill contributed 56 runs for India, while other batsmen failed to play significant innings.

For India, apart from Rahul and Gill, Ravindra Jadeja scored 27, Rohit Sharma 24, Virat Kohli 23, Nitish Kumar Reddy 20, Shreyas Iyer 8, and Harshit Rana 2. Mohammed Siraj remained unbeaten on 2 runs. For New Zealand, Kristen Clarke took three wickets, while Kyle Jamieson, Zachary Foakes, Jaden Lennox, and Michael Bracewell claimed one wicket each.
