New Zealand's most successful run chase in ODIs
New Zealand lost two early wickets while chasing the target, but Daryl Mitchell and Will Young forged a crucial 162-run partnership for the third wicket, turning the tide of the match. Young narrowly missed a century, getting out after scoring 87 runs off 98 balls with seven fours. Mitchell then took charge, along with Glenn Phillips, and guided the team to victory. In terms of records, this is New Zealand's highest successful run chase in ODI cricket in India. Their previous best successful chase was 281 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2017. Overall, this is New Zealand's fifth-highest successful run chase against India in ODIs, with the record being 348 runs in Hamilton in 2020. This was also the first time in five matches in Rajkot that the team chasing the target emerged victorious.
