Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav finally broke his silence on refusing to shake hands with Pakistani players and closing the door of the Indian dressing room after the high-voltage match of the Asia Cup 2025. India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in this match played on Sunday. After the match, the Indian players neither shook hands nor talked to the Pakistani players.
Captain Suryakumar did not shake hands with Salman Ali Agha even during the toss. Not only this, as soon as the Pakistani players moved forward to shake hands with the Indian players, the door of the Indian dressing room was closed. This symbolic boycott has now become a topic of discussion, and Indian captain Suryakumar also showed the mirror to Pakistan in the press conference after the match.
'Some things are above sportsmanship'
In the press conference after the match, Suryakumar Yadav said, 'When we came here to play, we had taken a decision as a team. We came here only to play. We gave a befitting reply on the field. We are with the BCCI and the government. I think some things in life are above sportsmanship. I said the same thing in the post-match presentation. We stand with all the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.'
The Indian captain said, 'We stand with the victim families and express solidarity. As I said, we dedicate this victory to those brave soldiers who took part in Operation Sindoor. Just as they inspire us, we will also try to inspire them whenever we get a chance.'
Reference to the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor
This match was played when the tension between the two countries was at its peak. In April, 26 tourists lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. After this, in May, the Indian Army took major action against terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under 'Operation Sindoor'. Amidst these circumstances, before the match, there was a strong demand for a boycott of sports against Pakistan in India.
There was chaos in the Pakistan camp.
On the other hand, Pakistan coach Mike Hesson also reacted to this incident. He said, 'We wanted to shake hands, but are disappointed that the opposition team did not do so. We are also disappointed with our game. Salman not attending the post-match presentation was the result of that.'
India's clean message
Cricket fans are considering India's victory and handshake boycott as a clear message from India. It has become a big topic of discussion on social media that Team India not only won, but also gave a befitting reply to Pakistan both on and off the field.
