Another series, another clean sweep. India defeated West Indies by 17 runs in the third and final T20I at the Eden Gardens Stadium on Sunday to clean them 3-0 in the T20I series after the ODI. Batting first, India scored 184 for five in the allotted 20 overs, in response to which West Indies could only manage 167 runs in nine overs.
Nicholas Pooran played another brilliant inning of 61 runs to score his third consecutive half-century in the series, but this time also he could not save his team from defeat. India defeated West Indies by six wickets in the first match and by eight runs in the second. This is Rohit Sharma's third series win as a full-time captain as well as a hat-trick of a clean sweep.
Under Rohit's captaincy, India first defeated New Zealand 3-0 in the home T20 series, then defeated the West Indies team on the tour of India 3-0 in the ODI series and now 3-0 in the T20 series as well. Cleared it from -0. This victory is enough to say that Team India's preparations are going in the right direction for the next T20 World Cup to be held in Australia this year.
Suryakumar-Venkatesh worried about the middle order: After the clean sweep in this T20 series for India, the most positive aspect was the excellent batting of Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer in the middle order. Suryakumar and Venkatesh have largely removed the worries of India's middle-order batting. The way both have performed in this series, India has got a fine match finisher in Suryakumar and a pure all-rounder in Venkatesh.
In the last match, Suryakumar scored 65 runs in 31 balls, which included seven sixes and a four. On the other hand, Venkatesh Iyer scored an unbeaten 35 in another brilliant cameo. Both had come to bat at a time when the Indian innings were faltering. Venkatesh, after batting brilliantly, also took two wickets showing Jauhar in the bowling as well.
Experiments as soon as they got opportunities: In this series, Team India's coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma experimented as many opportunities as they got. Some were successful in this and some failed. Ishan Kishan was given plenty of opportunities as an opener in this series, but he could not do anything special. In the last match, Rohit tried Rituraj Gaikwad as an opener in his place.
