The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended the No Objection Certificates (NOCs) of its players a day after their defeat to India in the Asia Cup 2025 final. This information was shared by Pakistani media reports and sports journalist Faizan Lakhani. The suspension of NOCs means that national players will no longer be allowed to participate in any foreign T20 or franchise leagues.
Pakistani news portal Samaan TV quoted sources as saying that PCB Chief Operating Officer Syed Sameer Ahmed issued instructions to the players to focus on domestic cricket and international competitions rather than foreign leagues.
Players Affected by the Decision
Top Pakistani cricketers will be directly affected by this decision. These include Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Faheem Ashraf, and Shadab Khan, who were scheduled to play in Australia's Big Bash League (BBL 15) this year. Haris Rauf and other players were also scheduled to play in franchise leagues like ILT20.
Although these media reports also state that the PCB did not clarify the reason for the NOC suspension, it is believed in cricket circles that the board's move is an immediate reaction to the team's poor performance in the Asia Cup. In addition to Saam TV, ProPakistani.pk also reported the same.
Pakistan's Defeat in the Final
The Asia Cup final between Pakistan and India was a thrilling contest. India defeated Pakistan by five wickets, chasing the target in the final over. Kuldeep Yadav destroyed the Pakistani batsmen in this match, while innings from Tilak Verma (69*) and Shivam Dubey (33) led India to victory. With this victory, India won the Asia Cup title for the second consecutive time.
Team India achieved three consecutive victories over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025. Following this defeat, all the players, including Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha, Faheem Ashraf, and Hasan Ali, returned to Lahore. This humiliating defeat in the Asia Cup prompted top PCB officials to take drastic action.
Domestic Cricket and Priority
Cricket experts believe that this move by the PCB signals a prioritization of domestic cricket and the national team. Franchise cricket has been a major opportunity for players in Pakistan, but the board's message is clear: country and domestic cricket first. Surprisingly, such news surfaces every time a loss to India occurs, yet despite this, there has been no improvement in the Pakistani cricket structure.
The team's situation continues to deteriorate. The PCB chairman, the captain, and the coach are replaced. Instead of showing confidence in the players, they are dropped from the team. This time, the Pakistanis lost three times to Team India in a single tournament. Consequently, major changes are expected within the Pakistan cricket team. Pakistani fans have even demanded Naqvi's removal. It remains to be seen whether the players will rebel against the NOC cancellation, as similar situations have arisen before, and Pakistani players have rebelled. This suspension will particularly affect young and talented players, who are looking to build their careers with limited opportunities.
