A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court against the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), a coalition of opposition parties. The petition sought to restrain the opposition parties from using the alliance's acronym INDIA.

The petition has been filed by activist Girish Bhardwaj through advocate Vaibhav Singh. A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula will hear it today. The petitioner says that he had sent a complaint regarding this to the Election Commission. On not getting a reply from the commission, he moved the court.

What is the contention of the petitioner?

The petition cited the statements of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He said that these leaders have named their alliance after INDIA. The petition further stated that Rahul Gandhi's statement has created confusion in the minds of the public. The statement said that the upcoming elections would be fought between NDA and INDIA.

fear of political violence

The petition also states that the opposition parties have named the alliance as I.N.D.I.A. to take undue advantage in the next Lok Sabha elections. Doing so can lead to provocation. Hatred can arise between political parties. There is also a strong possibility of political violence due to this.

The petitioner also stated that INDIA is a part of the national emblem. It cannot be used for any commercial, commercial purpose or political purpose. The selfish work of political parties can adversely affect peaceful, transparent, and fair polling in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This can incite violence and the law and order of the country can also be affected.
