India won the 10th consecutive ODI series against Sri Lanka: Rahul's match-winning innings, won the second match by 4 wickets

India has won the first ODI series of the World Cup year. He has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead over Sri Lanka in the 3-match home series. India won the second match by 4 wickets. Team India won the first ODI of the series by 67 runs. The third and final match will be played in Thiruvananthapuram on January 15.

 

The team has defeated Sri Lanka in the 10th ODI series in a row. The Indian team has not lost to Sri Lanka in the ODI series for the last 26 years. His last defeat was in 1997.

 

Electing to bat first after winning the toss at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, the Sri Lankan team was dismissed for 215 runs in 39.4 overs. Nuanidu Fernando (50), playing a debut match, played a half-century innings. Kusal Mendis scored 34 runs and Vanindu Hasaranga scored 21 runs. Captain Dasun Shanaka could score only 2 runs. Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav and fast bowler Mohammad Siraj took 3-3 wickets. Bowler Umran Malik got wickets.

 

In response, Team India scored the required runs for 6 wickets in 43.2 overs. KL Rahul played a match-winning inning of 64 runs. While vice-captain Hardik Pandya contributed 36 runs. There was a partnership of 75 runs on 119 balls for the 5th wicket between the two. At one time the Indian team had lost 4 wickets for 86 runs. Captain Rohit Sharma 17, Shubman Gill 21, Virat Kohli 4, and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed after scoring 28 runs.

 

Sri Lanka's Lahiru Kumara and Chamika Karunaratne got 2-2 wickets. While Kasun Rajitha and Dhananjay de Silva got one success each.

KL Rahul: After falling 3 wickets for 62 runs in the powerplay, wicketkeeper-batsman Rahul handled the innings till the end of the match. He first shared a 75-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer and then Hardik Pandya. After Pandya's dismissal, Rahul's 64 not-out innings helped the team win by 4 wickets.

 

Kuldeep Yadav: It was Kuldeep who broke Sri Lanka's strong first-wicket partnership. He took the crucial wickets of Charith Aslanka and Dasun Shanaka followed by Kusal Mendis. Kuldeep ended his spell with figures of 3 for 51 in 10 overs.

 

Mohammed Siraj: Siraj gave Sri Lanka a jolt in the powerplay. Then came in the last over and took 2 wickets and prevented the Sri Lankan team from scoring big. He ended his spell with figures of 3 for 30 in 5.4 overs.
