Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day tour of France has been completed and now he has reached United Arab Emirates (UAE). Meanwhile, India and France have issued a joint statement informing that the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) is setting up a technical office at the Indian Embassy in Paris.

The statement pointed out that France is one of India's most important partners in building a self-reliant defense industry and technological foundation. Co-development and co-production of cutting-edge defense technologies is a joint commitment of India and France. For this, both countries are also working towards adopting a roadmap on defense industrial cooperation.

It further added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Bastille Day parade as a guest of honor during his visit and both countries welcomed the timely delivery of the 35 Rafale aircraft ordered. In line with their excellent cooperation in military aviation for more than five decades, India and France welcome the timely delivery of the 36 aircraft ordered by New Delhi, he said. In the future, the two countries will develop their defense cooperation in advanced aeronautical technologies by supporting the joint development of a fighter aircraft engine. A roadmap will be prepared between Saffron and DRDO on this project before the end of this year.

The joint statement said the two leaders stood by the industrial collaboration of Saffron Helicopter Engines (France) for the motorization of heavy-lift helicopters under the Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) program. A shareholder agreement was signed between India's Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and France's Saffron Helicopter Engines for engine development, to take forward the IMRH programme.

In addition, India and France appreciated the success of the first Scorpene submarine construction program (P75 - Kalvari), a model of 'Make in India', and the sharing of naval expertise between companies in the two countries. Both countries also welcomed the MoU between Maizgaon Dockyard Limited and Naval Group for the construction of three additional submarines under the P75 program.
