French President Emmanuel Macron awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor to PM Narendra Modi. It is the highest French honor in military or civilian orders. PM Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to receive this honor. Prime Minister Modi thanked President Macron for this unique honor.

Before PM Modi, former South African President Nelson Mandela, the then Prince of Wales King Charles, and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel have also received this honor.

These include the Order of the Nile by Egypt in June 2023, Companion of the Order of Logohu by Papua New Guinea in May 2023, Companion of the Order of Fiji in May 2023, Abakal Award by the Republic of Palau in May 2023.
