Indian Army's concern increased due to the Ukraine war: fear of stopping the supply of Russian weapons, production will be increased in the country

Even though Russia has attacked Ukraine and there is a war going on between the two, this Indian defense has also become a big threat. About 60% of the supply of defense equipment to the three parts of the Indian Army comes from Russia, but there is a fear of this supply being stopped due to war. Due to this, there is a possibility of a shortage of weapons in the Indian Army. To deal with this loss, the Government of India has planned to increase the production of these weapons in the country itself.

 

According to the AP report, the government said on Thursday that the government will increase the manufacturing of military equipment in the country to avoid any significant shortfall from its main supplier Russia. These also include helicopters, tank engines, missiles, and airborne early warning systems.

 

Defense Minister released the third list of Defense Import Ban

 

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday released the third list of military equipment that will no longer be imported and will be made indigenously. He said, India has the world's second-largest army, fourth largest air force, and seventh largest navy, which cannot depend solely on imports. Our target is to develop India as a defense manufacturing hub.

 

The domestic industry will get orders worth Rs 2100 billion

 

According to the website of the Ministry of Defense, the government will order military equipment production worth Rs 2100 billion to the domestic defense industry. The responsibility for this production to be done in the next five years will be given to both domestic government and private defense manufacturers.

 

A special agreement was reached on Putin's visit to India

 

According to former Lieutenant General DS Hooda, a special agreement was reached between the two sides during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India last year. In this agreement, it was agreed to shift some production of Russian-made defense equipment to India to meet India's defense requirements. There is a plan to completely stop the import of helicopters, warships (corvettes), tank engines, missiles, and airborne early warning systems.

 

According to General Hooda, with the kind of loss the Russian army itself is going through, its need may increase. In such a situation, we may need to divert the manufacture of some parts.

 

Will fulfill short term requirements from former Soviet countries

 

Defense Ministry officials also acknowledged that the supply of weapons and defense parts may be affected due to the Russia-Ukraine war. He said that to deal with this short-term supply problem, we can focus on buying from former Soviet countries and Warsaw Pact countries.

 

Bulgaria, Poland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine can help in upgrading parts of Russian-made Sukhoi and MiG-29 fighter jets and tanks and armored vehicles, as they also have similar Soviet-origin platforms and parts.

 

Preparations are on to stop the import of more than 300 items

 

The Defense Ministry has so far included more than 300 military items in the 'Positive Indigenization List', whose imports are planned to be met by local manufacturers in the coming years by completely stopping them in a phased manner.
