Intelligence Bureau: Tapan Kumar Deka, a senior officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS), has been made the head of the Intelligence Bureau. According to an official order issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions on Friday, June 24, he will replace the current Chief of IB, Arvind Kumar. The extended tenure of the current IB chief ends on June 30. With this, RAW Chief Samant Kumar Goel has once again been given an extension of one year.

According to an official order issued by the Personnel Ministry, Deka is currently handling the responsibility of the Operations Wing of the IB. He has been appointed as the chief of IB for two years. He is a 1988 batch IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre. In another order, the ministry said that the tenure of Samant Goel, who is heading the Intelligence Agency Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), has been extended for one more year. Earlier, the Central Government had posted senior IPS officer of Punjab cadre Dinkar Gupta as the head of the National Investigation Agency.
The current Chief of IB has been given an extension twice
A top central government official said that the tenure of the current Intelligence Bureau chief Arvind Kumar, a senior IPS officer of the 1984 batch, was ending on June 30. Before this, he had been given an extension twice. Sources say that this time Arvind Kumar had expressed interest in not being given an extension of his service. Significantly, due to the continuous extension of service in the highest posts, a lot of displeasure has been expressed among the officers below them.
Taking a decision, the Central Government has issued orders to make a Special Director posted in the Intelligence Bureau and 1988 batch Himachal Pradesh cadre senior IPS officer Tapan Kumar Deka as the head of the Intelligence Bureau. He has been posted on this post for 2 years i.e. Tapan Kumar Deka will be posted as Intelligence Bureau chief from July 1, 2022, to July 1, 2024. This stand of the central government was known a day earlier when Special Director Swagat Das posted in the Intelligence Bureau, a senior IPS officer of the 1987 batch, was removed from the IB and posted as Special Secretary, Internal Security in the Union Home Ministry.
According to the new orders of the Central Government, Ra chief Samant Kumar Goel has once again been given an extension of one year. Even before this, he has been given an extension of service on this post. Samant Kumar Goyal will now be able to remain posted in this post for the next year. The central government has also filled the post of the head of the National Investigation Agency, lying vacant for a long time. Senior IPS officer of Punjab cadre Dinkar Gupta has been posted on this post. This post was lying vacant for a long time. The additional charge of this post was being looked after by the Director-General of CRPF.
