The 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will start in the last week of March. Before that, bad news has come for the four-time champion team Chennai Super Kings. Star fast bowler Deepak Chahar is in danger of being ruled out of the tournament. Chahar was bought by Chennai in the auction for Rs 14 crore. He is the main fast bowler of the team. Chahar was ruled out due to a hamstring problem in the third T20I against West Indies.
The last match of the three T20 match series between India and West Indies was played on Sunday (February 20). He took two wickets for 15 runs in 1.5 overs. He could not bowl the last ball of the second over. Due to a hamstring strain, Chahar also lay down on the ground and later walked out with Physio. After this Chahar did not return to the field and then was ruled out of the T20 series against Sri Lanka.
According to the Times of India, Chahar may now be out of IPL 2022 after the series against Sri Lanka. Chahar's injury is serious and he could be out for at least two-three months. When Amar Ujala called an office bearer of Chennai Super Kings to discuss the matter, he said that no one in the franchise can speak on Chahar's injury right now. Everyone is watching his injury, including team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming.
If Chahar is out, it will be a huge blow to the franchise and him himself. Four teams had bid to buy four in the auction. Apart from Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals wanted to buy Chahar. In the end, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's team got successful. Rajasthan had made the final bid of Rs 13.75 crore.
The Chennai team management is hopeful that Chahar will be fit in time and will be available for the entire duration of the tournament. Apart from Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav was also ruled out of the series against Sri Lanka. He had gone to Lucknow with the team but got injured as soon as he reached there. The BCCI has not announced the replacement of both the players.
