The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering organizing the second phase of IPL 2024 outside India given the Lok Sabha elections. According to media reports, BCCI officials are in UAE and are exploring the possibility of holding the second phase of IPL in the Gulf country. This decision is being taken because the dates of the Lok Sabha elections may clash with the second phase of IPL. Lok Sabha elections are to be announced today afternoon. Only after the elections are declared, the BCCI can make a final decision on holding the next phase of IPL outside the country.
Players were asked to submit passports
According to the media report, while giving information about this matter, the BCCI official said that at present some top officials of the board are in Dubai and are looking at the possibilities of holding the second phase of IPL in Dubai. According to the report, some franchises have also asked the players to submit their passports. Earlier in 2014 also, the first phase of IPL was organized in UAE during the Lok Sabha elections. However, despite the Lok Sabha elections being held in 2019, the entire IPL season was held in India.
BCCI had not announced the complete schedule
Due to the non-announcement of Lok Sabha elections, BCCI had not announced the complete schedule of IPL 2024. The board had announced the schedule of the first phase of the 17th season of this popular tournament which included 21 matches. The first phase of IPL will start on March 22 with the match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), while the final match of the first phase will be played between Lucknow Supergiants and Gujarat Titans on April 7.
