In the 1965 war, 35 fighter jets of India were destroyed in a sudden attack by the Pakistani Air Force. Not only this, but due to the lack of GPS, and radar in the fighter planes, Squadron Leader William Green landed in Pakistan instead of India.
This was the time when India was buying fighter jets from other countries. Now is the time when India's indigenous modern fighter jet 'Tejas' wants to buy a powerful country like America.
Offer to sell 18 indigenous Tejas to Malaysia
India will now not only buy fighter jets from other countries of the world but will also sell them. This information was given by Ajay Bhatt, Minister of State for Defense in Parliament on Friday, August 5.
Minister of State for Defense Bhatt said in his statement that Hindustan Aeronautics Limited ie HAL manufactures this fighter jet with one engine. To this end, in October last year, the Royal Malaysian Air Force responded to a request for a proposal for 18 jets, offering to sell a 2-seater version of the Tejas.
Along with this, he has also said that 6 other countries like America, Argentina, Australia, Egypt, Indonesia, and the Philippines have also shown interest in buying this aircraft.
The effort started in 1983 got a success after 18 years.
Preparations for the induction of Light Fighter Aircraft (LCA) in the Indian Air Force fleet started in 1983. As soon as the government's green signal was received, Indian scientists were engaged day and night to carry out their mission. In its time LCA had only two purposes-
First: to create a new fighter jet to replace the Russian fighter MiG-21.
Second: To make indigenous and light fighter jets.
After nearly 18 years of hard work, finally, in January 2001, this indigenous fighter jet flew in the skies of India for the first time. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of the country when all this was happening. In 2003, it was Vajpayee who gave it 'Tejas'. While naming Tejas, Prime Minister Vajpayee had said that it is a Sanskrit word, which means 'shine'.
Tejas is different from the rest of the fighter jets because of its 4 characteristics
The top fighter jets currently in the Indian Air Force fleet include the names Sukhoi Su-30MKI, Rafale, Mirage, MiG-29, and Tejas. Tejas is different and special from the rest of the four fighter jets because of these features.
First: 50% of the parts of this aircraft i.e. machinery are made in India.
Second: Israel's EL / M-2052 radar has been installed under modern technology in this aircraft. Because of this, Tejas can track and hit 10 targets simultaneously.
Third: Capable of taking off on a very small runway of 460 meters.
Fourth: This fighter jet is the lightest of these four i.e. only 6500 kg.
Why did the Air Force need Tejas?
The Indian government was looking to replace it due to the crash of more than 400 MiG-21 aircraft in the last five decades. Tejas succeeded in replacing this MiG-21. Due to the low weight of this aircraft, it can easily land and take off even on sea vessels. Not only this, its weapon carrying capacity is twice that of MiG-21. Talking about speed, Tejas has a speed of 300 km per hour more than Rafale.
Tejas beats fighter jets from China, Russia, and South Korea
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Chairman and Managing Director R Madhavan said that Malaysia had many other options in place of the Tejas fighter jet. These included China's JF-17 jets, South Korea's FA-50, and Russia's MiG-35 as well as the Yak-130. Despite this, Malaysia has shown interest in buying it.
He said that due to the low price of JF-17, Malaysia's attention got towards it, but due to the advanced technology in Tejas, it is thinking of buying it. Due to Malaysia's need, it is looking to buy this low-weight aircraft. He said that in terms of maintenance and repair, weight, cost, and firepower, Tejas has left behind the 4 most powerful aircraft in the world.
