The debate is going on in the Bombay High Court regarding the removal of the phrase Jai Shri Ram from a dialogue in Hindi cinema's veteran producer-director K C Bokadia's film 'Teesri Begum'. During the hearing on this film yesterday, the filmmaker and the censor board reached a consensus on retaining 13 out of the 14 cuts suggested by the censor board in the film. The producer is not ready to bow down in any way on the 14th cut of the film in which the censor board has asked to remove the word Jai Shri Ram from the film.
Bokadia says that it is not just about my film. Here the matter is to bring the real face of those officials in front of the world who are doing religion-based bias. Producer-director K C Bokadia, who holds the record of being the fastest filmmaker to make 50 films in the country, is counted among those who played a big role in re-establishing Amitabh Bachchan in the Mumbai film industry. Not only this, he also saved the career of actress Rekha when the social boycott of her films started.
Bokadia has become active in film production again after a long time. One of his films 'The Signature' has recently been bought by Zee Group and there are talks of releasing this film in September. He has also made a sequel to his blockbuster film 'Teri Meherbaniyan' with Jackie Shroff. A serial of Bokadia 'Sardar' is making waves on Doordarshan these days. And, the case of his directorial film 'Teesri Begum' has been pending in the High Court for a long time.
According to the information, the court recently also saw that part of the film to which the censor board had objections. After watching this part, the court also expressed its intention to watch the entire film, on the last date, Bokadia's lawyer also submitted a digital copy of the entire film to the court. The film 'Teesri Begum' was initially refused to be passed by the censor board, but when an appeal was made against it, the revision committee recommended releasing it with 'only for adults' certification after 14 changes.
One of these 14 changes was regarding a character saying Jai Shri Ram in his dialogue at the climax of the film. The censor board had asked to remove Jai Shri Ram from the film. Bokadia says, 'My fight is not against any person or institution. My fight is against a thought. Today everyone says Jai Shri Ram. Javed Akhtar says Jai Shri Ram on public forums, so if a Muslim is saying Jai Shri Ram in my film, how can the censor board object to it.'
Bombay High Court veteran lawyer Ashok Saraogi is arguing on behalf of KC Bokadia. According to the information, during this debate, the censor board has agreed to withdraw 13 out of the 14 changes suggested by the censor board's review committee. Now the matter is stuck on a Muslim character saying Jai Shri Ram in the climax of the film. Bokadia says that Ram is the symbol of my faith and even after making so many films and earning so much fame, if I am unable to save the name of Ram in my film then all my efforts will be in vain. Therefore, this film will be released with the name Jai Shri Ram.
