After the huge loss of life and property due to the landslide in Wayanad, Kerala, amid relief and rescue operations, contemplation has also started on who is responsible for this. Suggestions are coming from various political parties that the systems for forecasting natural disasters should be more foolproof.

More than 350 people have lost their lives due to landslides.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, MPs in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha also discussed this issue. In Lok Sabha, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya was only able to say that more than 350 people have lost their lives due to landslides in Kerala in the last five years. These disasters occurred due to irregular business activities in the Western Ghats region. Many reports came out in this regard, but the UDF and LDF governments of Kerala kept suppressing them for many years.

Congress member Venugopal opposed.

Congress member Venugopal opposed this statement of Tejasvi, calling it political allegations and counter-allegations. Then the matter remained here in the Parliament, but this report related to Kerala has come to light that the report of two expert panels regarding the landslides in Kerala has been lying in cold storage for ten years, but no action has been taken on it.

The high-level working group led by K. Kesthurirangan had identified ecologically sensitive areas, which also included 13 villages of Wayanad. The committee had recommended special provisions to prevent unregulated commercial-industrial activities in these areas.

The then central government of Congress also opposed it

It is said that the then central government of Congress along with various organizations of the state also opposed it. After that, a three-member committee formed by the state government also submitted a report in 2014 making similar recommendations, but after that, till now the state government has not been able to issue a notification.
