What will be different

Newer Intel-powered Macs are still in the pipeline, so Apple is not yet exclusively switching to ARM-based Macs. Still, this is a big step for Apple to move away from Intel-based silicon in the Mac.
The biggest step for ARM-powered chips is that future iOS and iPadOS apps can work on macOS. Apple says, "Most apps will only work," for the first time you will be able to run an iOS app as well as a macOS app.
Apple is promising new levels of performance and lower power consumption with its in-house processors. Apple is designing its range of SoC for Mac, which has unique features for Mac. The common ARM-based architecture in Apple's products is now making it easier for developers to write and customize applications on every major Apple device.
Apple's own Pro app will be updated to support the company's new silicon in MacOS Big Sur, and the company hopes that developers will update their app. Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering, claims that "most developers can get their app up and running within a few days."
