In IPL Phase-2, the second match of the day was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday, which RCB won by 54 runs in a unilateral style. In the match, MI had a target of 166 runs, but the team could only score 111 runs. With the win, RCB has 12 points and the claim of Kohli and Co. to reach the playoffs has strengthened. Mumbai Indians have dropped to the seventh position with the loss. This was also the first victory after RCB's defeat in seven consecutive matches on the UAE ground. RCB captain Virat Kohli revealed after the win that he had consulted Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers before launching the bowling attack against Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya. It was only after that that he handed the ball first to Daniel Christian and then to Harshal Patel.

Mumbai Indians needed 67 runs in 30 balls

Mumbai Indians needed 67 runs from 30 balls to win after the end of 15 overs. Although it was not easy to score, it was not difficult for Mumbai Indians, as Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard were present at the crease at that time.

The ball was handed over to Daniel Christian and then to Harshal Patel

While changing the bowling, Kohli handed over the 16th to Daniel Christian and the 17th over to Harshal Patel. Christian put pressure on Pandya and Pollard for only 6 runs, while on the first three balls of the 17th over, Patel completely caught RCB in the match by making Pandya, Pollard, and Rahul Chahar their victims. The entire team of Mumbai was all out after scoring 111 runs in 18.1 overs.

Kohli said he had talks with Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers before changing the ball after the 15th over. He suggested to me that I should hand over the ball to Daniel Christian, as he is experienced and bowls slow bounces, so can get a wicket. He said that Yuzvendra Chahal has bowled well and has taken two wickets, but it is not appropriate to bowl to him in front of Hardik and Pollard. Pollard and Hardik will not be easy to stop. So I handed the ball to Christian. He stopped the pace of the run. After that, the next over was handed to Patel and Patel scored a hat-trick and turned the match in our favor.

Harshal's memorable hat-trick

In the match, RCB's young fast bowler Harshal Patel took 3 wickets in 3 balls while bowling brilliantly in the 17th over. Patel completed his hat-trick by dismissing Hardik Pandya (3), Kieron Pollard (7), and Rahul Chahar (0). Harshal was the third bowler to take a hat-trick for RCB. At the same time, this was the 20th hat-trick in IPL history. Also, Harshal Patel was the 17th bowler to score a hat-trick in the IPL. Before this, Amit Mishra has taken 3 hat-tricks and Yuvraj Singh has taken 2 hat-tricks, while other bowlers have 1-1 hat-tricks.
