India-Australia: Both countries discussed cyber policy, Australian Prime Minister will come to India in March

India and Australia held the fifth bilateral cyber policy dialogue in New Delhi on Thursday. The Cyber ​​Policy Dialogue provides a bilateral forum to discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest. The talks include cyber threat assessment, building next-generation telecommunications capability, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

 

The bilateral talks were co-chaired by Muanpui Sayawi, Joint Secretary (Cyber ​​Diplomacy Division), Ministry of External Affairs, and Dr. Tobias Fekin, Ambassador for Cyber ​​Affairs and Technology, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Government of India. The cyber policy dialogue was held under the India-Australia Framework Arrangement on Cyber-Enabled Critical Technology Cooperation and Action Plan 2020-2025 for broader and deeper cyber cooperation.

 

 

The Indian delegation included senior officials from the National Security Council Secretariat, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Department of Telecommunications, and National Center for Critical Information Infrastructure Protection. The Australian delegation included senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, and the Australian Federal Police.

 

Australia and India agreed to explore further collaboration opportunities with the private sector and academia, including the Australia-India Cyber ​​and Critical Technology Partnership, the statement said. Further said that the discussions in this dialogue included strategic priorities, cyber threat assessment, building next-generation telecommunications capacity including 5G technology, cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, and the latest developments in cyber at the United Nations.

 

The home ministry said Australia and India will jointly conduct cyber boot camps as well as cyber and technology policy exchanges in collaboration with Indo-Pacific partners. At the same time, the sixth India-Australia Cyber ​​Policy Dialogue will be held in 2023.

After the G-20 summit, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that he met Prime Minister Modi of India. We discussed the finalization of the Economic Cooperation Agreement between Australia and India. We see this as vital to expanding the economic relationship between Australia and India. He said that I will go to India in March. We will be taking a business delegation to India and it will be an important visit and will improve relations between the two countries. PM Modi will come to Australia next year for the Quad leaders meet and then I will go to India at the end of the year for the G20 summit.
