A fire broke out in a camp in the Maha Kumbh (Maha Kumbh Fire) fair on Sunday evening. The flames of the fire that erupted due to the cylinder explosion engulfed the other camp due to strong wind. A stampede-like situation arose. Police, fire brigade, SDRF, NDRF somehow controlled the fire, but by then more than 250 tents were burnt to ashes.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was also in the fair area to review the preparations for the Mauni Amavasya bathing festival. He also reached the accident site and gave the necessary instructions to the officials. It is being said that two persons got burnt while trying to extinguish the fire, but there has been no official confirmation.
CM Yogi took cognizance of the matter.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took information about the accident from the Chief Minister. The loss of goods worth crores of rupees is estimated due to the fire. All departments including police, and fire brigade have been alerted in the entire fair area. There is a joint camp of Geeta Press Gorakhpur and Akhil Bharatiya Sangh Karpatra Dham Varanasi on Mori Marg in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh Mela area.

ADG Bhanu Bhaskar, Police Commissioner Tarun Gaba, Mahakumbh DIG Vaibhav Krishna, and SSP Rajesh Dwivedi also arrived with the rescue team. Many fire brigade teams were engaged in extinguishing the fire. After about half an hour to 45 minutes of effort, the fire was somehow controlled, but by then more than two hundred and fifty tents had been burnt. More than four gas cylinders have also burst.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the accident site along with Water Power Minister Swatantra Dev Singh and Urban Development Minister AK Sharma.
