The first phase of Manipur Election 2022 has started today. Voting is being held today in 38 constituencies spread across five districts including Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, and Kangpokpi. Significantly, in the first phase, a total of 173 candidates, including 15 women, are trying their luck in this election. At the same time, as soon as voting started today, Manipur CM Biren Singh and Deputy CM and NPP candidate from Uripok Yumnam Jaikumar Singh claimed victory by casting their votes. According to the Election Commission, 8.94 percent polling has been registered till 9.30 am in the first phase.
CM Biren Singh said - will win 30 seats out of 38
CM and BJP candidate from Hingang, N Biren Singh arrives to cast his vote at Srivan High School, Imphal. After voting, he said that I am expecting that 75% of people of my constituency will vote for BJP and me. BJP is expecting at least 30 seats out of 38 in the first phase. During this, he also appealed to all the people to cast their votes, Biren said- I request the people of my constituency as well as other voters to cast their valuable votes and use the democratic power given by the constitution.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan also cast his vote at Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary School in Imphal. After casting his vote, he said, "I appeal to all the people of Manipur to exercise their franchise because there is democracy in our country and the symbol of democracy is elections."
People participating fiercely in voting, Corona guideline is being followed
People are seen taking part enthusiastically at the beginning of the voting for the first phase of the Manipur elections. Let us inform that this time CM N Biren Singh is contesting from Hingang. With this, Speaker Y Khemchand Singh from Singjamei, Deputy CM Yumnam Jaikumar Singh from Uripok, and State Congress President N Lokesh Singh from Nambol are trying their luck. All these are counted as Haat seats, on which all eyes will be fixed. On the other hand, Presiding Officer Dr. Syed Ahmed said that the preparations for the first phase of the elections have been completed. He said a large number of security personnel are present in Assam and Manipur and smooth polling is expected this time.
The criminal history of 39 candidates
According to the Election Commission, out of all the candidates in this phase, 39 candidates have a criminal history. The BJP has fielded its candidates on all 38 seats, while the Congress is contesting only 35 seats. This time JDU has also entered the fray to show its stamina and has fielded its candidates on 28 seats.
A total of 12,09,439 voters will vote
Manipur Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Aggarwal said that this time a total of 12,09,439 voters including 5,80,607 male, 6,28,657 female, and 175 transgender voters will vote in the first phase. 1,721 polling stations have been set up for this phase in the state. Voting has started and will continue till 4 pm.
Voting for the second phase will be held on March 5
