UGC: Gift to professionals, you are not able to do PhD due to job, then this news is of your work

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given a big relief to the professionals who are unable to do a Ph.D. due to a job. Now working professionals will be able to do part-time Ph.D. along with the job. In this, six months of course work in the Ph.D. program will have to be done in regular mode, while other research work including the thesis will be done in part-time mode.

 

In the council meeting of the UGC, the proposal for the draft of the UGC Regulation (Minimum Standard and Procedure for Award of Ph.D.) 2022 has been passed. Apart from this, if 60 percent of seats to be filled through NET and JRF of Ph.D. remain vacant, then the idea of ​​adding 40 percent of seats (to be filled through Joint Admission Entrance Test of University or NTA) is also under consideration. However, no decision has been taken on this yet.

 

The revised UGC Ph.D. Regulation-2022 has been approved in the UGC Council meeting of the University Grants Commission held on June 13. From the upcoming academic session 2022-23, Ph.D. admissions will be held in universities, CSIR, ICMR, ICAR, etc. under the same rules. Universities and higher educational institutions will be required to upload the details of their Ph.D. seats on the official website. In this, topics from a Ph.D. guide will also have to be shown. For Ph.D. admission, 70 marks will be written and 30 marks will be for the interview. The Ph.D. program must have a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 16 credits. Apart from this, after retirement, the teacher will be able to serve again in the parent university as a teacher in the research field till the age of 70 years. Different classes have been prescribed in it.

 

Now the thesis will be printed in the peer review journal and patented, in the new regulation, freedom has been given from candidates to universities. Now Ph.D. candidates can get their thesis patented. Apart from this, the research finding of a Ph.D. can be published in a quality journal ie Peer Review-Journal.

 

Ph.D. Viva Online and Offline Option

For the first time in Rona Kaal, Ph.D. Viva will also be online. In the new regulation, it has been written to implement Ph.D. Viva Online prominently. Its purpose is to save time and money for the student and the university. In this, online Viva will have to be given. Viva can be given offline if the student faces any problem.

 

Ph.D. has to be completed in six years

Ph.D. has to be completed in six years. No institution shall allow additional time for more than two years. At the same time, provision has been made to give the additional time of two years in addition to six years for women candidates and persons with disabilities (more than 40 percent).

 

Two institutes will also be able to get Ph.D. together

Now in the new rules, two colleges together can get the degree program studied. For this, both the institutions will have to compromise. In this, the committee will decide how the research area and the supervisor (guide) and co-supervisor (two guides) together will get the Ph.D. done. In this, any supervisor will be able to keep Ph.D. scholars only under the prescribed rules.

 

Professor, Associate, and Assistant Professor will get PhD

Under the new regulation, any full-time regular, associate, and assistant professor can get a Ph.D. For a professor and associate to get a Ph.D., at least five research papers must be published. Whereas for Assistant Professor, it will be necessary to have three research published with teaching, and research experience for five years. According to the new rule, a professor can have no more than eight, an associate professor at least six, and an assistant professor at least four Ph.D. scholars. Apart from this, two scholars can be placed under the super numeric seat if foreign Ph.D. scholars are received.
