Manipur Violence: Attempt to burn houses of BJP leaders in Imphal, yesterday the mob burnt Union Minister's residence

Incidents of violence have again come to the fore in Manipur. The mob set ablaze a godown near the Imphal Palace grounds and then tried to burn down the houses of BJP leaders. The violent people then also clashed with the security personnel deployed there.

 

People clashed with RAF personnel

When Manipur's Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel tried to stop the mob, people clashed with them. Police said that RAF personnel fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, as the mob tried to torch other private properties in the vicinity.

 

Two were injured in a clash between security forces and a mob

Two civilians were injured in overnight clashes between a mob and security forces in Imphal city. The firing was reported from Kwakta in Manipur's Bishnupur district and Kangwai in Churachandpur district throughout the night.

 

Robbery attempt at Iringabam police station as well

There was also an attempted robbery at the Iringabam police station in Imphal West. However, no weapons were stolen. The Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Rapid Action Force conducted a joint march till midnight in the state capital to prevent rioters from assembling.

 

A mob of 1000 people attacked

A mob of about 1000 people tried to burn down several buildings near the Imphal Palace grounds. The RAF fired tear gas shells and also fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

 

Attempt to set fire to MLA's house

On the other hand, the mob also tried to set fire to the house of MLA Biswajit. However, the RAF column dispersed the crowd. Some other people surrounded the BJP office in Sinjemai after midnight, but no one was hurt as it was dispersed by an army squad.

 

Similarly, a mob tried to ransack the house of BJP's Mahila Morcha president Sharda Devi near Porampet in Imphal around midnight. The security forces later chased away the youths.
