Electric car maker Tesla's Made in China car will not enter India. According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, instructions have also been given to Tesla in this regard.

What the Government of India said: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while addressing the 'India Today Conclave 2021', said, "I have told Tesla not to sell electric cars in India that are made in China. You should get electric cars in India. We should manufacture and export cars from India." Gadkari further said, "Whatever support you (Tesla) want will be provided by our government."

Along with this, Nitin Gadkari has also supported electric cars manufactured by Tata Motors. He said that electric cars manufactured by Tata Motors are no less good than Tesla vehicles.

Talking on tax relief: Let us tell you that Tesla is preparing to enter India's auto industry through its electric car. Earlier, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had demanded the Indian government to reduce import duties. Elon Musk had said that the import duty in India is very high. In this regard, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that he is still in talks with Tesla officials regarding the demand related to tax concessions.

Currently, India imposes an import duty of 100 percent with CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) on a fully imported car valued above $40,000. Import duty on cars costing less than this is levied at the rate of 60 percent. Most cars sold in the country cost less than $20,000. In this also the sales of electric vehicles in India are marginal. Let us tell you here that India is the fifth largest car market in the world with annual sales of around 3 million vehicles.
