Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a submarine optical fiber cable connecting Chennai and Port Blair on Monday. Modi said that through this network, people of Andaman and Nicobar will get cheap and fast internet service. It is also proposed to build a port in Great Nicobar for 10 thousand crores to increase trade.
The cost of laying 2300 km of cable came to Rs 1224 crore. Its foundation was laid by Modi in 2018. The cable can also connect Swaraj Island, Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Commodore, Great Nicobar, Long Island, and Rangat to Port Blair.
6 important things about Modi's address
Got a chance to launch the scheme a year and a half ago
Taposthali of India's independence, land of resolution, Andaman and Nicobar, and hello to all who live there. Today is also important for the entire country along with millions of people living in dozens of islands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Saluting Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, there was an opportunity to launch the Submarine Optical Fiber Cable Scheme about one and a half years ago. Glad that it got a chance to launch today also.
Cabling at sea was not easy
I see it as an affectionate gift to the people of Andaman before Independence Day. Surveys in the deep sea, maintaining cable quality, and laying cables through special vessels were not easy. The larger this project was, the greater the challenges. This was also a reason that it could not be worked on for years, but glad that this work was completed by removing all the obstacles.
Developing every area of the country
Modern facilities should be reached to every people, region, and life of every citizen should be made easy. There should be rapid development of border areas and maritime border areas associated with national security. This project, which connects Andaman and Nicobar to the rest of the country and the world, is a symbol of our commitment to the Ease of Living. Now people here will be able to get cheap and good facilities for mobile connectivity and fast internet.
Tourists and business will also benefit
Tourists visiting there will also get a huge benefit from the facilities provided to Andaman. Better connectivity is the priority of any tourist destination. I am sure that tourists who go there would like to stay longer. If people stay longer then it will also have a huge impact on employment. The Indian Ocean has been the center of India's trade and strategic prowess for thousands of years.
Projects in Andaman and Nicobar are completing fast
The high-end project is being expanded in the 12 islands of Andaman. To strengthen the road connectivity of North and Middle Andaman, two major bridges are being worked on rapidly. The capacity to handle 1200 passengers simultaneously at Port Blair Airport will be ready in a few months. Water infrastructure in Swaraj Island, Shaheed Island, and Long Island will also be ready in a short time. Under the UDAN scheme, sea-plane service will start. This will improve connectivity between the islands. The 4 ships being built at Kochi Shipyard will also be delivered soon.
Great Port to be built in Great Nicobar
Due to many such efforts, the capacities and capacities of the country's port network are expanding. Ports worth about 10 thousand crores are proposed in Great Nicobar. If it is ready, then India's share in maritime trade will increase, youth will get new opportunities.
