Shimla, March 15 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee Sunday cancelled his visit to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Mandi in Himachal Pradesh owing to bad weather, an official said.
Mukherjee was scheduled to attend the second convocation of IIT.
The president won't be able to reach the venue due to bad weather, a government official told IANS.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Governor Kalyan Singh gave away the degrees and medals.
The IIT campus is located in Kamand village near Mandi, about 175 km from here.
However, President Mukherjee prayed at the popular temple of goddess Maa Baglamukhi in Kangra district.
Maa Baglamukhi is considered the eighth manifestation of Lord Vishnu. It is one of the busiest shrines in northern India.
Mukherjee delivered the 64th annual convocation of Panjab University in Chandigarh on Saturday, asking universities to gear up to the challenge posed by new models of knowledge dispensation, especially online courses.
