Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reiterated Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's point of helping the British. He said that Veer Savarkar helped the British. Rahul also challenged the Maharashtra government to stop the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Earlier, Uddhav Thackeray, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and head of a faction of Shiv Sena, distanced himself from the Congress leader's remarks. Uddhav said that his party has great respect for VD Savarkar and does not approve of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks on the freedom fighter. We have great respect and faith in Swatantra Veer Savarkar and this cannot be erased.

Rahul also read Savarkar's alleged letter

While talking to the people, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi read out a letter. Claimed that it was written by Veer Savarkar to the British. Rahul read the letter and said Sir, I request you to remain my most obedient servant. It was also signed. Savarkar helped the British. They betrayed leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Patel by signing the letter out of fear.

What did Rahul say?

Earlier, during a rally organized as part of his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Washim district on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi had said that Savarkar is the symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Savarkar wrote a book about himself with a different name and told how brave he was. The Congress MP had said that Savarkar was jailed for two-three years in the Andamans. He started writing mercy petitions. Savar had helped the British in every way. The former Congress president had claimed that he used to take pensions from the British, worked for them, and worked against Congress.

Maharashtra government warned

Rahul said that the concept that Congress is not fighting the battle against the BJP is wrong. When asked about Rahul Gandhi being the prime ministerial candidate of the Congress party in the 2024 general elections, the Congress leader said it was an attempt to divert attention from the Bharat Jodo Yatra. When asked about the impact of his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' on the Congress, Rahul Gandhi said I am not an astrologer, I cannot tell the future.
