Mumbai: Big action by GST department, man arrested for claiming fake refund of 27 crores

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) department of Maharashtra arrested a 26-year-old youth on Wednesday. He is accused of making fraudulent claims of Rs 27 crore by way of fraudulent input tax credit.

 

 

Officials said, a special drive was launched by the department against companies availing bogus input tax credit and claiming bogus GST refunds. Investigation found that the arrested person had issued fake bills of more than Rs 238 crore through fake companies.

 

 

"These companies availed fake input tax credit of over Rs 34 crore and claimed fake GST refund of Rs 27.20 crore. The accused was arrested on Tuesday and sent to judicial custody for 14 days," the official said.
