Governor CV Anand Bose on Friday met riot victims at the Parlalpur High School relief camp in Baishnabnagar of Malda district of West Bengal. This relief camp has been set up for hundreds of people who became homeless after the communal violence in Murshidabad district. Teams of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) also reached there with the Governor. Governor Bose's visit took place despite Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's request to the Governor not to go there for the time being. On this, the Trinamool Congress (TM) alleged that this move of the Governor is politically motivated and this can further deteriorate the atmosphere.
Effective steps will be taken - Governor.
Governor Bose spoke to the women, children, and men present in the camp and listened to their problems. He said, 'I talked to the affected families, and understood their troubles. They told me their problems in detail. Now effective steps will be taken on this.' The Governor reached Malda from Kolkata by train. He said that he would personally assess the situation and would also visit the hospital, affected area, and other relief camps if needed. According to sources, the Governor may visit the riot-affected areas of Murshidabad on Saturday.
Visit of NHRC and NCW teams
The National Human Rights Commission took suo motu cognizance of the incident and sent its team to the spot. The team took stock of the situation by talking to the victims living in the camp. The commission has sought a detailed report from the state government within three weeks. At the same time, Women's Commission Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar expressed concern over the condition of women and children. She said - The situation here is very bad. Women and children are living in very difficult conditions. They were forcibly evicted from their homes and they are in severe mental trauma.
'Does the TMC government want to turn Bengal into Bangladesh?'
Women's Commission member Archana Majumdar alleged that women have been mistreated and molested. 'It is the responsibility of the state government to ensure their safety. She raised the question, does the TMC government want to turn Bengal into Bangladesh?'. The commission's team will spend the night in Malda and go to Murshidabad on Saturday. On Sunday, they will meet the Governor, Chief Secretary, and DGP in Kolkata.
