The great festival of faith, Chhath, is currently being celebrated across the country. The excitement of Chhath is visible everywhere. Heartwarming images are pouring in from different parts of the country. Chhath songs are playing everywhere. Fasting women are also singing Chhath songs. The ghats are vibrant, and everyone is immersed in the devotion of Chhathi Maiya. The name of Bihar's renowned folk singer, Sharda Sinha, has always been at the forefront of songs played during Chhath. But this time, there is sadness in people's hearts because Sharda Sinha is not with us on this sacred festival of Chhath.
Sharda Sinha left after singing her last song.
This time, Chhath has everything, but if there is anything missing, it is the influx of songs by the Nightingale of Bihar, which used to bring the festival to life. How can it be possible that Sharda Sinha does not sing every time the great festival of Chhath arrives? Last year, Sharda Sinha sang "Dukhwa Mitain Chhathi Maiya" for Chhath. Who knew that this song, sung by the Nightingale of Bihar for Chhathi Maiya, would become her last? Sharda Sinha's daughter herself revealed that she sang this song when her mother was ill. Now, audiences are remembering the Nightingale of Bihar after hearing this song.
Sharda Sinha's music is amazing.
Ho Dinanath, Pahile Pahil Chhathi Maiya, Chhath Ke Baratiya, Kelva Ke Pat..., and countless other songs have been sung by Sharda Sinha. Whenever Chhath arrives, it seems as if the echo of the songs will soothe the ears. That voice will provide the comfort it has provided for years. Sharda Sinha will again release a song that will bring peace to the mind and compel one to immerse oneself even more in the devotion of Chhathi Maiya. But this year, it seems as if the festival of Chhath feels a little empty without Sharda Sinha. Those who truly understand the true meaning of music admit that there are many different types of music. Some music fills your heart with peace, while others possess a playful charm that brings a smile. Other music speaks volumes without being explained and touches the heartstrings, sometimes even bringing tears to the eyes. But the magic of Sharda Sinha's music is such that it provides a truly profound sense of fulfillment.
Though the Nightingale of Bihar is no longer with us on this Chhath festival, every Bihari, and anyone for whom Chhath is not just a festival but an emotion, cherishes her memories. This coming November 5th will mark a full year since Sharda Sinha's death. She passed away on November 5th, 2024.
