Today (27 August), students will conduct Nabanna Abhiyan (Nabbana Protest) around the state secretariat i.e. Nabanna Bhawan, regarding the atrocities committed against a junior doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This march has been called under the banner of Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj.
This demonstration of students against the Mamata government has got the support of the BJP. Given the demonstration, 4,500-5,000 police personnel will be deployed in the city. 21 police officers of IG and DIG rank have been given special security responsibilities.
What is Nabanna?
Actually, before 2011, the secretariat of Bengal used to be the Writers Building. In 2011, the Mamata Banerjee government converted a building on the banks of the Hubli River in Howrah into a secretariat, which was named Nabanna. Nab means new.
Police made tight arrangements
13 police officers of SP and DSP rank, 15 officers of Additional Police Commissioner, and Additional Superintendent of Police rank will also be deployed. Meanwhile, on Monday, the police held a press conference and termed the movement as illegal and called it a conspiracy to spread unrest.
The police have also made their preparations for this campaign. The government is trying to ensure that the police do not use lathis during the campaign. However, the police have said that if anyone tries to disrupt law and order, they will be showered with water.
