Shubman Gill makes a big demand from the BCCI... suggests a new Test rule to avoid defeats in Test cricket.

Since Gautam Gambhir became the head coach of the Indian team, Team India has suffered two clean sweeps in Test series. New Zealand defeated them 3-0 at the end of 2024, and South Africa defeated them 2-0 at the end of 2025.

In light of this, Indian Test team captain Shubman Gill has given a suggestion to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to improve the team's performance.

Shubman Gill's Special Suggestion to the BCCI

Captain Gill believes that if India wants to maintain its dominance in Test cricket, it needs to change its traditional methods of preparation.

15-Day 'Special Camp.'

Shubman Gill has suggested that the BCCI should make a special training camp of at least 15 days mandatory before every Test series. According to Gill, players often go straight into Test matches after playing T20 or ODI formats, which doesn't give them enough time to adapt to the red-ball game and the mindset required for the longer format.

Gill says that these 15 days (15-day red-ball camp) will not only help the team adapt to the conditions but will also help address minor technical weaknesses in the players.

Will the fear of defeat on foreign tours end?

The Indian team has recently struggled in the initial Test matches in countries like New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia. Gill believes that if the team spends 15 days in the same country's conditions before the series begins, the chances of defeat can be significantly reduced. He also said that this time spent in practice matches and net sessions will be a game-changer for the players' confidence.

VVS Laxman's help might be needed

Due to India's busy schedule, planning a 15-day camp every time will not be easy. A BCCI source said that they might have to utilize their coaching staff and facilities at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The source said:

"There may be instances when key players are busy with white-ball teams while a Test series is approaching. The board will organize a red-ball camp for which they may utilize the services of VVS Laxman, the head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA)." - BCCI
