The Supreme Court on Monday ruled a plea to defer the NEET and JEE Main 2020 entrance examinations. After this, now JEE Main 2020 will be organized from September 1 to September 6, while NEET 2020 will be organized according to the schedule on September 13.
A bench of Justices Arun Mishra, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Krishna Murari, while ruling in the case, said that life cannot be stopped like this. We have to proceed with security measures, the future of students cannot be at stake. The court also asked the petitioning students, do you want to waste your one year by canceling the examinations?
What happened in the courtroom -
Arguing against the examinations: Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava, appearing for the students, cited the situation arising out of the corona in front of the bench. He said that when CBSE, ICSE and AIBE can be postponed, why not JEE and NEET. He said that we are not seeking to postpone these examinations indefinitely, but in the current situation, avoiding is the only option.
An argument in favor of examinations: In response to the petition, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on behalf of the National Testing Agency said that if examinations are done according to the prescribed schedule, then all the security measures will be done on our behalf and complete preparation has been done.
Court verdict: After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court said in clear terms that it is a question of the future of the students. It cannot be placed at stake. The court also advised the petitioner to value his one year while advising the students.
Students from 11 states had filed petitions
Students from 11 states had filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding the postponement of JEE Main and NEET examinations in protest against the exam. The petition demanded that the examinations should not be conducted amidst the corona epidemic in the country. In such a situation, the scheduled dates of examinations should be postponed.
More than 20 lakh students registered
This time more than 20 lakh candidates have registered for both the examinations. The petition states that, with such a large number of students appearing in the examinations, the risk of spreading the infection may increase.
