NEET Dress Code Controversy: The National Commission for Women has taken a serious note of the issue of several girl students being forced to remove their innerwear during the screening ahead of the NEET UG 2022 exam in Kerala. Taking cognizance of the matter, the commission has called for a time-bound report. The National Commission for Women said that this incident is shameful and degrading to the honor and dignity of daughters.
NEET UG 2022 exam was conducted on Sunday, July 17 in more than 550 cities across the country and abroad. 18.72 lakh candidates were registered for the exam. Of these, about 10 lakh are girl students. During the examination, this episode has come to the fore at a private examination center located in Kollam, Kerala. There has also been a lot of outrage on social media regarding the matter. Now the National Commission for Women has taken cognizance of the matter and has issued instructions for action.
NTA chief directed for an independent investigation
National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to National Testing Agency (NTA) chairman Vineet Joshi to conduct an independent inquiry into the allegations leveled by the girl students and take appropriate action as per law against those responsible. The commission has also demanded a time-bound probe into the matter from the National Testing Agency.
Kerala DGP directed to take legal action
Along with this, the National Commission for Women has also written to the Director General of Police, Kerala to conduct an impartial inquiry into the matter and register an FIR under the relevant provisions of the law if the allegations are found to be true. Commission chairperson Rekha Sharma wrote that the action taken by the DGP Kerala in the matter should be apprised of the commission within three days.
