The Supreme Court began hearing petitions related to the controversial NEET-UG exam. A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra said that it has social implications. Meanwhile, the counsel for the petitioners told the Supreme Court that the NTA has admitted the paper leak and the circulation of leaked question papers through WhatsApp. Senior advocate Narendra Hooda, appearing for the counsel for the petitioners-students, told the court that the statements of the investigation of Bihar Police stated that the leak took place on May 4 and before submitting the question papers to the respective banks.
The court is hearing more than 40 petitions in the case. The petitions also include applications from the NTA. The NTA has sought the transfer of cases pending against it in various High Courts to the Supreme Court. Let us tell you that the medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024 was conducted on May 5. Earlier, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the city and center-wise results of the medical entrance exam on Saturday.
An analysis of the data released by the NTA showed that candidates who allegedly benefited from paper leaks and other irregularities did not perform well. However, the number of students who performed well was higher at some centers. This data was from more than 32 lakh candidates from 4,750 centers.
Earlier on July 11, the apex court had adjourned the hearing on other petitions, including petitions seeking cancellation of the exam, re-examination, and investigation into alleged irregularities in the conduct of NEET-UG 2024, till July 18 as some parties have not yet received the responses of the Center and the NTA.
The apex court, while hearing the petitions on July 8, had said that the sanctity of NEET-UG 2024 has been violated. The bench said that if the entire process is affected, a re-examination can be ordered. The exam was held on May 5 at 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 foreign cities. More than 23.33 lakh candidates appeared in it.
