South Korea's military says it fired warning shots after a North Korean drone violated the south's airspace. Earlier, North Korea had tested a ballistic missile in the past.

First case since 2017

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said several unmanned North Korean drones crossed the inter-Korean border and were found on the South's territory on Monday. This is the first time a North Korean drone has entered South Korean airspace since 2017.

Monday's incident comes three days after South Korea said North Korea tested two short-range ballistic missiles in its latest weapons tests. South Korea's military and Japanese coast guard said North Korea fired a ballistic missile into the sea off its east coast on Friday.

North Korea tests ballistic missiles

North Korea fired two intermediate-range ballistic missiles off its east coast on Sunday. It called it a "critical" test for its spy satellite program, which it aims to complete by April. Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said her country would not stop its missile program despite sanctions. He said that such development is directly related to the security of the country.
