The discussion about 'One Nation, One Election' is hot across the country. In this discussion, there is talk of holding simultaneous elections for Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Amid uproar over the Centre's 'one nation, one election' concept, Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar on Wednesday said the commission is ready to conduct elections by legal provisions.

 

Responding to reporters on 'One Nation, One Election' at a press conference on the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Kumar said, "As per the legal procedures, the Constitution and the RP Act, we have the right to conduct elections and we Ready for this.

 

He said, "We must conduct elections well in advance as per the constitutional provisions and the RP Act. Article 83(2) says that the tenure of the Parliament will be 5 years and Section 14 of the RP Act says that we will announce elections 6 months in advance." Can do. Committee formed for 'One Nation, One Election'

Meanwhile, the Center on Saturday constituted an eight-member high-level committee to examine the issue of 'one nation, one election' and make recommendations for holding simultaneous elections in the country.

 

Apart from the chairman, the committee includes Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, former Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Finance Commission Chairman NK Singh, senior advocate Harish Salve, former Lok Sabha Secretary General Subhash C Kashyap and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Sanjay. Kothari will be included.
