People on the streets against the strict lockdown in China: demonstrations in 13 cities; Leave Jinping throne, unlock China slogans raised

People have come on the road against the zero covid policy in China. These demonstrations, which started in Beijing, have now reached 13 major cities. Police are arresting people from the lathi charge to stop them, but the anger of the people is not ending. People continued to demonstrate on the streets throughout Sunday night.

 

During this, people are shouting slogans demanding the removal of the lockdown and giving freedom. The protesters said – We want Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Expression, Freedom of Movement. Give us our freedom People are also demanding the resignation of President Xi Jinping.

 

First, understand why these demonstrations are happening

Corona is increasing continuously in China. On November 27, 40 thousand cases of corona have been reported. This is the biggest figure ever. Now the number of active cases in China has crossed 3 lakh. Due to this, the Xi Jinping government has imposed many restrictions.

 

66 lakh people are imprisoned in homes due to strict lockdown. These people cannot even go out for food items. Resentment is also increasing due to the daily Covid test. Strict action is being taken against those who are not following the rules of the government.

 

1. First the reason, why people got angry

Zero Kovid policy is in force in China for 10 months. There are various restrictions, but anger flared up when a fire broke out on the 15th floor of a building in Xinjiang, China, on 25 November. 10 people died in this accident. Due to the lockdown, the relief could not reach on time. People alleged that the officers were negligent. After this people took to the streets in Beijing and demonstrations started.

 

2. Officers are not following the new flexible rules

The new rules ease restrictions on people and are designed to be less damaging to the economy, but local officials are unwilling to drop the strict rules as Covid cases rise. Instead of relaxing the rules, the officials are returning to the Zero Covid policy as before.

 

3. Demonstration spread in how many cities

The demonstrations started from the capital Beijing and reached Beijing, Lanzhou, Xi'an, Chongqing, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Korla, Hotan, Lhasa, Urumqi, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Shijiazhuang. Here people are continuously raising slogans against the government for the last three years.

 

4. Slogans are being raised for Jinping to leave the throne.

People kept raising slogans such as Jinping to oust, Communist Party oust, Unlock Xinjiang, Unlock China, don't want PCR test, want freedom of the press.

 

5. Why are people showing blank white paper

Expressing dissatisfaction, the protesters are protesting with blank white paper. In Beijing too, students were seen carrying out silent protests carrying blank white papers. This is a kind of protest done to avoid censorship or arrest.

 

Chinese media silent on protest

The Chinese media is silent about this protest. No news related to the protest is being shown there. However, an article has been published in China's official newspaper Global Times, in which it has been said that Western media are blowing up the matter related to Zero Covid Policy. It has been written quoting an official of Fudan University – Western countries are condemning the Communist Party of China due to mutual differences.

Ed Lawrence, a BBC reporter protesting in Shanghai, was arrested by the Chinese police. Shortly afterward he was thrashed and released. According to the BBC, the police tied their hands, and beat and kicked them.

Corona has created an outcry in China's financial capital Shanghai. Shanghai is also of great importance for economic trade with China and other countries of the world. According to experts, the economic growth of the country is being affected due to the lockdown.

People were also protesting the deaths of 10 people killed in a building fire in Xinjiang on November 25. Most people in China are citing strict corona restrictions as the reason for these deaths.
