Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Dubai to participate in the climate conference COP28. Speaking to the local newspaper Etihad in Dubai, Prime Minister Modi said that there is a need for strong global cooperation against climate change. PM Modi also said that it should be ensured that the interests of the countries of the Global South should not be compromised in the fight against climate change.
'There is no compromise with the interests of the Global South'
While talking to Dubai newspaper, PM Modi also said that India is the only country that has fulfilled its target of National Determined Contribution. The Prime Minister said that 'he always says that climate change is a global challenge and the whole world has to unite against it. Developing countries mustn't be considered problem-causing countries. Developing countries also want to contribute to solving the problem, but this is not possible without giving them financial and technical help. This is why I have always advocated that global cooperation for financial and technology transfer is extremely important to tackle climate change.
India took many steps toward environment
The Prime Minister said that India has taken many steps in this direction to deal with climate change. Under this, the Mission Lifestyle for Environment Mission has been started. Under this, people are motivated to adopt an environment-friendly life. The Prime Minister also said that keeping the environment in mind, India has started the National Green Hydrogen Mission in January 2023. Under this, there is a plan to make India a global hub for the production and use of green hydrogen as well as its exports. While talking to Etihad, PM Modi said that India aims to take the production of green hydrogen in the country to 5 MMTPA by the year 2030. However, this will require an investment of about 100 billion dollars.
India's Five Commitments Against Climate Change
Prime Minister Modi said that during the COP27 conference, I had given five ambitious commitments of India called Panchamrit to deal with climate change. These include reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, achieving 50 percent of India's energy needs from renewable energy by 2030, limiting carbon emissions to one billion tonnes by 2030, and developing a carbon-based economy by 45% by 2030. percent and reduce carbon emissions to zero by the year 2070.
