Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday accused the Tamil Nadu government of taking a U-turn on the PM Shri scheme. He alleged that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led state government was opposing the three-language formula under the new education policy for political gains.
He said the DMK's stand on the three-language formula under the NEP exposes their double standards. "The opposition to NEP 2020 is not linked to the protection of Tamil pride, language, and culture but is only for political gains," Pradhan said in a post on X.
Union Education Minister shared a letter
Pradhan shared a letter from the Tamil Nadu education department in a social media post, which was dated March 2024. The letter said that the state government is willing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up PM Shri schools and a committee has also been formed in this regard.
Pradhan wrote, "Yesterday there was a meeting between DMK MPs and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin accused me of giving false information in Parliament that Tamil Nadu had given consent to set up PM Shri schools. I stand by my statement given in Parliament and am sharing the consent letter of the Tamil Nadu School Education Department dated March 15, 2024.
Stalin can lie as much as he wants, the truth cannot be hidden: Pradhan.
He further said DMK MPs and Chief Ministers can lie as much as they want, but when the truth comes out, it cannot be hidden. The DMK government led by Chief Minister Stalin has a lot to answer to the people of Tamil Nadu. Giving a twist to the language issue and denying facts as per their convenience cannot hide the shortcomings of their government. The Tamil Nadu government and the Center are not in agreement with each other on the implementation of the new National Education Policy and the three-language formula.
Pradhan's remarks created uproar in the Lok Sabha.
Pradhan had said in the Lok Sabha on Monday that the Tamil Nadu government is not honest and has taken a U-turn in the matter of implementing the PM Schools for Rising India (PM Shri) scheme. His remarks led to uproar. DMK MPs accused Pradhan of insulting Tamil Nadu, following which he had to withdraw his remarks and the House was adjourned for some time.
