Political crisis in Nepal: resignation of seven ministers, President decides to dissolve parliament

Nepal's President Bidya Devi Bhandari dissolved the country's parliament, ie the House of Representatives, as per the recommendation of the Oli government and announced mid-term elections. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's cabinet had recommended the dissolution of Parliament, on which seven ministers have resigned, protesting unhappily.

 

According to the President's decision, elections will be held in two phases on 30 April and 10 May. According to a release issued by the President's office, the constitutional traditions have been cited for this decision.

 

Prime Minister KP Oli's government has tightened security in the capital Kathmandu following a recommendation from the President to dissolve the Nepali parliament. Police have a large presence in the main squares of the capital.

 

On the other hand, Prachanda, the acting president of CPN (Maoist), who was angry at the news of the dissolution of Parliament, has reached Prime Minister Oli's residence. According to the BBC's Nepali service, Prachanda had a conversation with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Earlier in Nepal, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's cabinet had recommended the dissolution of Parliament.

 

It was decided to recommend the dissolution of Parliament in the emergency meeting of the cabinet on Sunday morning.

 

Bishnu Rizal, a member of the Central Committee of the ruling Left Party of Nepal, told the news agency Reuters, "The Prime Minister has lost his majority in the Parliamentary Party, Central Committee and the Party Secretariat. He has dissolved the parliament without resolving the current situation in the party Has decided. "

It is being told that Nepal's Prime Minister KP Oli was facing opposition in his party. They were being accused of running the party and government unilaterally.

 

KP Oli was elected Prime Minister after the integration of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) in the year 2018. CPN (Maoist) leader Pushp Kamal Dahal became co-chairman of Prachanda Unified Party.

 

However, later the power struggle started in the party. In such a situation, despite the border dispute between India and Nepal, senior party leaders like Pushp Kamal Dahal and Jhalanath Khanal questioned the decisions of KP Oli.

 

At the same time, Prime Minister KP Oli recommended the President to issue an ordinance of the Constitutional Council if the Constitutional Council does not meet in the current case. The controversy erupted in the party after the President issued the ordinance.

 

Senior party leaders appealed to the President to withdraw the ordinance. The members had applied to the President to call a special session of Parliament. KP Oli was being demanded to leave the post of PM or the President of the party.

 

After this, the pressure increased on Prime Minister Oli. Then there was an agreement that the MPs will withdraw the application to call a special session and KP Oli will withdraw the ordinance. However, this did not happen and Prime Minister KP Oli recommended the dissolution of Parliament.

 

According to constitution experts, there is no clear provision in the new constitution of Nepal for the dissolution of the house. The Prime Minister's step is unconstitutional and can be challenged in court.

 

Earlier there was a political instability in Nepal, due to which there was no provision for dissolution of Parliament so that stability would remain. Now the legalists have appealed to the President not to accept the recommendation to dissolve the Parliament. If the President accepts this recommendation, then there may be a crisis.
