Protesters enter Iraq's parliament: Protest against pro-Iranian PM candidate, a cleric is in command of the movement

Protests against the nomination of a pro-Iranian man as the prime ministerial candidate in Iraq turned violent on Wednesday night. Thousands of protesters crossed the Sensitive Green Zone and marched to Parliament. They also entered the Parliament by climbing the walls here. Security forces were present here, but they too failed to stop these people. According to media reports, the leader of the protesters is Maulvi Muktada Sadr. He is Shia by origin.

According to the report of 'Sky News, the biggest concern of the security forces is that there are embassies of all countries apart from Parliament in the Green Zone itself. Here are also the offices of Secret Missions. If the protesters reach here, then there will be no option left except to fire in front of the police and the army. It can cause massive casualties. Elections were held in Iraq in October. Since then, the political situation in Iraq has worsened.

According to the report, Mohamed al-Sudani has been made the PM candidate by the coalition government. He is considered pro-Iranian. The country's clerics and their supporters are opposing it. Wednesday's incident is another picture of this.

 

Caretaker PM Mustafa Al Kadhimi said in a message issued to the protesters – we can talk peacefully. You move out of the green zone. This can become a threat to the country. The leader of the protesters is Maulvi Muktada al-Sadr. A few days ago, he had announced to separate himself from politics. In 2016 also his supporters had gone to this green zone.
