The dean of Pune's Sassoon Hospital in Maharashtra has made a big claim. He has alleged political interference in the car accident. He claimed that one of the doctors accused of changing the blood samples of the teenager involved in the Porsche accident was made the head of the forensic department at the behest of a state minister and an MLA. This MLA Sunil Tingre is also accused of going to the Yerawada police station after the accident and pressuring the officials to take a soft stand in the case. Two IT professionals were killed in the accident.
Hospital dean Vinayak Kale, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, said that Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif and Tingre had written a letter and asked to make Dr. Ajay Tawde the head of the forensic medicine department of Sassoon Hospital. Both Mushrif and the MLA are from the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party.
Soon after this, the Maharashtra government suspended two doctors from the state-run Sassoon General Hospital. They were arrested in connection with the alleged tampering of blood samples of the minor driver involved in the Porsche car accident in Pune. Apart from this, Dr. Vinayak Kale, Dean of BJ Medical College and Sassoon Civil Hospital, was sent on compulsory leave. Its additional charge has been handed over to Dr. Chandrakant Mhaske.
The order to suspend Dr. Ajay Taware, Professor and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine of Sassoon Hospital, and Medical Officer Dr. Shrihari Halnor was given on the recommendation of the Commissioner of Maharashtra Medical Education Department. Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif said that the state government has received the report of the three-member committee appointed to investigate the allegations. Based on the report of the committee, the Medical Education Department has issued an order to suspend these two officers (doctors).
Allegations of Congress
Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole had on Tuesday alleged that the son of an MLA was involved in the accident and the MLA was in touch with the police after the accident. He had also talked to the doctors and asked them to change the blood samples. Patole claimed that there is a nexus between the police, politicians, and the rich and influential people of the state. It has also been revealed that the teenager's father, who is a prominent builder in Pune, had spoken to Dr Tawde at least 14 times on May 19. The conversations included WhatsApp, FaceTime, and regular calls.
'No one will be spared'
Breaking his silence on the accident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday said that he has been in touch with the Pune Police Commissioner since day one and the law is equal for all. I have said from the beginning that no matter how influential someone is, there should be no discrimination against him. No matter how rich or poor a person is, the law is equal for everyone and no one will be spared.
What is the matter?
The accident took place on May 19 at around 2.15 am. The 17-year-old teenager was returning with his friends after celebrating his Class 12 results at two pubs in Pune when he hit two 24-year-old IT professionals in the Kalyani Nagar area.
