India's veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement. At the age of 38, Ashwin has announced his retirement from international cricket. He surprised the cricket world by announcing his retirement in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

 

Ashwin got a chance to play in the Adelaide Test match in BGT 2024-25, in which he did not perform well. There was little hope of him getting a chance in the future or not, because Ravindra Jadeja performed well in Brisbane. Ashwin's retirement was inferred when he looked emotional in the dressing room and Virat Kohli hugged him.

 

But after the Gabba Test match was drawn, Ashwin officially announced it in the press conference. Ashwin himself came to the press conference after the match and sitting next to Rohit Sharma, he quickly announced his retirement.

After the Gabba Test match was drawn, R Ashwin said in the press conference that today was my last day as an international cricketer. I will no longer be associated with the game as an international cricketer but will be associated with the game in some way or the other.

 

Announcing his retirement on the ex-post, Ashwin also wrote that after a lot of thought, I have decided to announce my retirement from Test cricket. It has been an incredible journey representing India, full of unforgettable moments. Thank you to my teammates, coaches, BCCI, and most importantly the audience for their unwavering support. New challenges await ahead, but Test cricket will always have a special place in my heart.

 

R Ashwin will be seen playing IPL.

 

Ashwin, who has played 287 international matches, will no longer be seen playing in international cricket matches. However, he will continue to play in the IPL. CSK bought Ashwin for Rs 9.75 crore for IPL 2025. Ashwin has returned to CSK after 7 years. He made his IPL debut in 2009 playing for CSK. Ashwin has played for Rajasthan Royals, RCB, and Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.

The way R Ashwin suddenly announced his retirement during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Many legends of the Indian team did the same. Ashwin may have said goodbye to international cricket, but there were some legends in BGT who suddenly retired from Test cricket in the middle of the series, including Anil Kumble (2008), Sourav Ganguly (2008), Rahul Dravid (2011-12), VVS Laxman (2012), Virender Sehwag (2013) and MS Dhoni (2014).

He took 72 wickets in T20s. Ashwin has equaled Muralitharan in terms of most Player of the Series awards. He has won 11 awards. Ashwin's best bowling strike rate as a spinner was 50.7 (200+wickets). As a batsman, Ashwin scored 3503 runs in Test cricket and scored a total of 6 Test centuries.
