Earlier on Thursday, Raghuvar Das said, "Jo bhi bichar sirsa netritva lenge o sarva manya hoga (whatever decision the party's senior leadership takes will be adhered to by all)."Party spokesman Ajay Maroo said apart from the two observers, BJP's in-charge for Jharkhand Trivendra Singh Rawat, state unit president Ravindra Rai and former chief minister Arjun Munda attended the meeting.

He said, after the meeting and further consultations with the newly elected MLAs, the observers apprised the party's national leadership of the details, It's for the first time, Jharkhand will get a non-tribal Chief Minister. The BJP itself had two tribal chief ministers in the past-Babulal M (once) and Arjun Munda (thrice).

Das won form Jamshedpur (East) assembly seat by defeating Anand Bihari Dubey of the Congress by 70,157 votes. What appears to have tilted the scales in favour of Das is the shocking loss of Arjun Munda in Kharsawan. Das is known to enjoy support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

Das was Deputy CM between December 30, 2009 and May 29, 2010. He originally belongs to Chhattisgarh. In Jharkhand, tribals account for around 33 percent of state's 3.3 crore population. Since its formation in 2000, Jharkhand has witnessed nine governments and five CMs, all tribal: Babulal M, Arjun Munda, Shibu Soren, Madhu Koda, Hemant Soren.

JMM leaders Shibu Soren (thrice), Hemant Soren (once) and Madhu K (once) are the other tribal leaders who had been the chief ministers since the state's creation 14 years ago.The BJP/Ajsu alliance got a majority, winning 42 out of 81 MLAs in the just concluded assembly elections
