Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Modi and said that PM Modi cannot stand up to President Donald Trump due to the ongoing investigation in the US against the Adani Group. Rahul Gandhi alleged that there is a danger of alleged disclosure of financial ties due to this investigation. In a post shared on Instagram, Rahul Gandhi wrote, 'India, please understand: Despite repeated threats from President Trump, Prime Minister Modi is not able to stand up to him because of the US investigation in the Adani case.'
Rahul Gandhi made serious allegations.
Rahul Gandhi wrote in the post that, 'There is also a danger of the financial relationship between Modi, AA, and Russian oil deals being exposed. Modi's hands are tied.' Amid the ongoing tension between India and the US over tariffs, US President Donald Trump on Monday said that the US will impose a significantly increased tariff on India for buying large quantities of Russian oil. He claimed that part of the oil purchased from Russia is being sold in the open market at huge profits.
Trump wrote in a post shared on Truth Social, 'India is not only buying huge quantities of Russian oil, but is also selling a large part of the oil purchased in the open market at huge profits. They do not care how many people are being killed by Russia in Ukraine. Because of this, I will increase the tariff on India drastically. Thank you for paying attention to this matter!!!'
The Indian government gave a befitting reply.
At the same time, India defended its sovereign right to formulate energy policy based on national interest. The Indian government made it clear that India's energy purchases are determined by market dynamics and national interests. Responding to questions about Trump's announcement of a fine for buying Russian oil last week, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, 'You are aware of our point of view, we look at the resources available in the market and the current global situation. We do not know of any specific information.'
