Ranipokhari bridge between Jolly Grant Airport and Rishikesh collapsed, several vehicles fell into the river; some stuck

The rivers are in spate due to incessant rains in the Rishikesh region. On Friday, suddenly the bridge over Ranipokhari broke down. Several vehicles were passing over the bridge at that time. There was information about vehicular movement. The part of the bridge that collapsed, some vehicles got stuck and some overturned. At the same time, Doon's contact with Rishikesh has been cut off due to the breakdown of the bridge. Now if anyone wants to come to Dehradun from Rishikesh, then they have to come via Nepali Farm.

 

Ranipokhari SHO Jitendra Chauhan told that a huge amount of water was coming into the river since the last day. Water was hitting both sides of the bridge. There have also been landing erosion in the direction of the petrol pump. The bridge in the middle of the bridge got damaged due to the strong current of the river. The police force has been deployed on the spot.

 

Efforts are on to rescue the vehicles stuck in the middle of the bridge. Due to the breakdown of this bridge, the road connectivity of the Garhwal division to the capital and the airport has been cut off. Whatever vehicle going to Dehradun, they are now being sent via Nepali Farm Via Bhaniya Wala.

The traffic coming from Rishikesh to Dehradun, Doiwala Ranipokhari, etc. is being sent from Rishikesh Natraj via Nepali Farm to Dehradun, while the traffic going from Dehradun to Ranipokhari Rishikesh is being sent to Rishikesh via Bhaniyawala Haridwar Bypass Nepali Farm. Ranipokhari Police Station said that traffic has been stopped on both sides of the bridge. Deputy District Magistrate Doiwala Laxmi Raj Chauhan told that the traffic has been stopped because of the flow of water on the Bhogpur road as well.

 

This bridge was built in 1964

 

At the same time, Dinesh Sidhwal, Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department, said that the Ranipokhari bridge near Dehradun capital was built in 1964. Two panels of this bridge are broken. The District Magistrate has reached Dehradun on the spot. He said that the entire incident has been monitored. For now, both the traffic has been stopped. This is an important bridge connecting Garhwal to the capital.

 

As of now, there is no loss of life or property due to this. Two small elephant vehicles a homini are stranded below before the bridge collapses. The administration is waiting for the water to stop so that the process of evacuating the vehicles that have been buried under the bridge will be done.

Due to heavy overnight rains in Dehradun, the river in Sahasradhara was in spate, due to which a part of the road was washed away due to soil erosion. In Khairi Man Singh, the rain has caused a lot of damage to the road and books.
