The Ministry of Home Affairs, in its report on the Kovid epidemic that caused the death of about 5.31 lakh Indians, has admitted that the demand for many life-saving medicines and oxygen had suddenly increased in its second wave. The ministry also claimed that it coordinated with the states and various stakeholders to get an oxygen supply, and also took several other steps. This ensured the availability of oxygen up to the district level, while the regular system also kept the supply unbroken.
In the annual report, the ministry acknowledged that in the second wave that started in April 2021, there was a sudden increase in the cases of Kovid, due to which the demand for remdesivir and many other life-saving drugs increased, then many types of barriers were removed across the country for the supply of medical oxygen from the plant. Went.
The use of medical oxygen for industrial use was also stopped by order. Similarly, when high-capacity oxygen tankers were brought from abroad by planes, instructions were also given to the district officials to start closed oxygen generation plants in the country.
Hospitals had to be built if beds were scarce
According to the ministry, in June 2020, a 1,000-bed temporary hospital was built in Delhi due to increasing cases of Kovid and patients not getting beds. It was reactivated in the second wave. The ministry itself helped to build 500-bedded hospitals in Patna and Muzaffarnagar.
