There is no sign of an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine. It is now reported that Russia and Belarus will start joint air military exercises on Monday. It is believed that Russian President Vladimir Putin may seek the help of his ally to launch a new offensive in Ukraine. The government of Belarus has described the exercise as defensive. Moscow used its neighbor as a springboard for its invasion of Ukraine in February last year. Belarus has so far conducted several military exercises jointly with Russia.

Fighter aircraft and cargo aircraft sent

Along with Russia, Belarus is also increasing the exercise with weapons and military equipment. Several fighter jets, helicopters, and military transport aircraft have arrived in Belarus since the beginning of this year. Eight fighter jets and four cargo planes have been dispatched on Sunday alone. At the same time, the Belarusian Defense Ministry only said that units of the Russian Air Force were coming to their country. Pavel Muravyko, a senior official in the Belarusian Security Council, said the situation on Belarus' southern border with Ukraine is not calm and that Kyiv is trying to provoke his country. Muraveko said that he is maintaining restraint and patience at this time and can respond to any threat from his side.

Belarus will not join the war

Explain that Ukraine has continuously warned of possible attacks from Belarus. President Volodymyr Zelensky said last week that the country should be prepared on its border for an attack by Belarus. However, Russia has denied that it is pressuring Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko to take a more active role in the Ukraine war. Belarus has said that it will not enter the war. Thousands of people have died in the war, millions have been displaced and many cities have been reduced to rubble.

Apartment destroyed in a missile attack

Russia fired missiles into Ukraine on Saturday. The attack destroyed a nine-story apartment building in the city of Dnipro. Natalia Babachenko, an adviser to the regional governor, said on Sunday that 30 people have been confirmed dead so far and more than 30 are in hospital, 12 of whom are in serious condition. He said that 30 to 40 people may still be trapped under the debris. Emergency workers reported that they heard people screaming for help under the pile of rubble from the apartment block, after which they tried to rescue them. Russia has been attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure with missiles and drones since October.

Ukraine appeals for weapons from Western countries

In his nightly address following the Dnipro attack, Zelensky called on Western allies to supply more weapons to respond to Russian terror and attacks on civilian targets. Britain said on Saturday it would send 14 of its Challenger 2 main battle tanks as well as other advanced artillery weapons in the coming weeks.
